Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Shri Trivendra Singh Rawat reviewed the Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Department at the Secretariat on Monday. The Chief Minister directed the officers to review the work being done by the Animal Husbandry Department for employment generation under the CM Swarojgar Yojana on the state label every month. There are many employment opportunities in agriculture, animal husbandry and fisheries. For this, people should be made aware of various works being done by the department and schemes of the government. Efforts needs to increase income of livestock owners engaged in wool production and special attention should be paid towards value addition of wool. Regular monitoring should be done in order to identify districts doing good work in poultry, milk production, wool production etc. and also identifying the districts which need more efforts. Efforts should be made by the department to increase annual income to farmers and livestock owners.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister inaugurated the toll free number 1800-120-8862 of the Animal Husbandry Department. Chief Minister Shri Trivendra said that cooperatives should be made to increase the income of livestock owners. If farmers get good price for milk, the net profit will increase and more and more people will adopt dairy farming. Special efforts are needed for growth centers as they can play an important role in marketing and value addition of milk and its products. Chief Minister Shri Trivendra said that it is the effort of the state government that the burden of grass should be removed from the heads of women, the Animal Husbandry Department needs to pay attention in this direction. Throughout the year, many accidents occur due to accidental fall and wild animals while bringing grass from the forest. Department need to make policy in order to arrange adequate fodder for milch animals at home. Women in Uttarakhand are doing good work in every field, if they are linked with other skill development activities, then they will get better results.
In the meeting it was informed that under the National Animal Disease Control Program (NADCP), 17.34 lakh animals were vaccinated, under the Mukhyamantri Swarojgar Yojana, the Animal Husbandry Department has provided loans to 523 beneficiaries. Uttarakhand ranks second in milk production in the hill states. Under the National Livestock Mission, an amount of 16 crore 80 lakh has been released by the Central Government for the year 2020-21. More than 77 thousand animals have been insured under Livestock Insurance Scheme. It has been targeted to eradicate Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) by 2025.
During review of Fisheries Department, Chief Minister Shri Trivendra directed that Funding should be increased for fisheries, people are showing interest to work in the field of fisheries in Uttarakhand. More and more people can be linked to fisheries for employment at a lower cost. Trout farming should be encouraged in state and good income can be earned at low input cost in fisheries, people should be encouraged for this. It was informed in the meeting that under the Prime Minister Matsya Sampada Yojana, approval has been received for 43.10 crore project, an amount of Rs. 3 crores has been released. A total of Rs 164 crore has been approved for fisheries development under the State Integrated Cooperative Development Project. Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Tehri, Uttarkashi, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts have been selected for trout farming. Under the State Integrated Cooperative Development Project, more than 3200 people have got employment in fisheries sector.
On this occasion, Animal Husbandry Minister Smt. Rekha Arya, Chief Secretary Mr. Om Prakash, Secretary Mr. R. Meenakshi Sundaram, Shri HC Semwal, Additional Secretary Dr. V. Shanmugam, Special Secretary to Chief Minister Dr. Parag Madhukar Dhakate, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Department officials were present.
