In 2021, ICAR-IVRI has achieved significant feat towards Intellectual Property protection and by now four patents have already been awarded. In the series most recent granted patent (No. 362851) on Construction of Glycoprotein E (GE) Gene-Deleted Mutant of Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis (IBR) Virus Indian Strain for DIVA-Based Marker Vaccine today. The invention relates to the Gene-Deleted Mutant of IBR Virus which has a potential to be used as Marker Vaccine against the IBR in Bovine with DIVA capability. The IBR is a disease of cattle & buffalo and affects the reproductive performance leading to abortion, repeat breeding and infertility and ultimately resulting into huge economic losses to the dairy industry.

IVRI Patent

The Institute’s 2nd Patent (No.  362477) granted on 22nd March, 2021 for Full-Length Infectious cDNA Clone for Indian Vaccine Strain of Foot-and-Mouth Disease Virus Serotype O (IND-R2/75). In this invention, the Infectious cDNA Clone of Vaccine Strain of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) Virus Serotype O has been developed by employing an in-vitro transcription system. The recombinant construct could serve as a valuable tool for developing the genetically engineered virus towards production of more potent and effective vaccines for FMD.

The 3rd Patent (No. 359482) received on 25th February, 2021 for “Generation of Newcastle Disease Virus Strain R2B from cDNAs by Reverse Genetics Technology” relates to the development of R2B Vaccine Strain as a viral vector by introducing genetic markers through reverse genetics. The Virus having a propensity to multiply in many animal species including humans, will aid in developing the newer generation Viral Vaccines for poultry and livestock species.

The 4th Patent (No. 359044) granted on 22nd February, 2021 for “Generation of Foot-and-Mouth Disease Virus Empty Capsids and their Application in Liquid Phase Blocking ELISA for Sero-Monitoring Vaccinated Animals” relates to the generation of non-infectious Foot-and-Mouth Disease Virus Empty Capsids (VLPs) using baculovirus virus expression system. These are antigenically similar to whole virus FMDV. Source: Institute Technology Management Unit (ITMU), ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar, Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh
