Union Government has sanctioned and released an amount of Rs.684.98 crores for fisheries in Tamil Nadu State during 2014-15 to 2019-20. The Government has issued an advisory on 26th February 2019 to all coastal States and Union Territories to improve safety of fishing operations by making mandatory use of Automatic Identification System (AIS) and Vessel Monitoring Systems (VMS) in fishing vessels for safe navigation.

The Government is providing financial assistance to the fishermen for construction of new deep sea resource specific fishing vessels, motorization of traditional fishing craft, purchase of safety kits for onboard use, procurement of Fibre-Reinforced Plastic (FRP) boats, undertaking fisheries activities such as mariculture as an alternative livelihood, construction of fishermen houses, insurance coverage besides many other fisheries development and welfare activities under the CSS on Blue Revolution: Integrated Development and Management of Fisheries.

This information was given in a written reply by the Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Shri Pratap Chandra Sarangi in Lok Sabha today.
