Haryana, Agriculture, and Farmers’ Welfare, Animal Husbandry and Dairying and Fisheries Minister, Mr. Jai Prakash Dalal said that under the ‘Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana’, fishermen and fish farmers of the state will be given an insurance cover of Rs five lakh free of cost and no premium will be charged for this. This scheme will act as a protective umbrella for the fishermen and their families.
Giving information in this regard here today, Mr. Dalal said that the ‘Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana’ has been approved by the Central Government to further promote fish farming and to achieve the target of 22 million tonnes of fish production by maintaining an annual growth rate of nine percent by the year 2024-25. It will also promote efficient aquatic management and provide quality fish seeds to the farmers.
He informed that the objective of the scheme is to ensure sustainable and accountable development of the fisheries sector by bringing a Blue Revolution in the country. He informed that the total estimated cost of the scheme across the country would be Rs 20,050 crore. In this scheme, the share of the Centre will be Rs 9,407 crore, the states share will be Rs 4,880 crore and the beneficiaries’ share will be Rs 5,763 crore.
Director of Fisheries Department Mr. P.S. Malik informed that so far 1,400 fishermen and fish farmers have been covered under this scheme in Haryana while the government aims to cover 17,000 fishermen and fish farmers. He informed that on any unfortunate account of death of fisherman and fish farmer while working, his family will get a claim of Rs five lakh whereas in the event of being disabled, Rs 2.5 lakh will be given to him. He informed that 60 percent of the claim amount will be given by the Central Government and 40 percent by the State Government.
