National Animal Disease Control Program (NADCP) Launched in U.T. Chandigarh

The National Animal Disease Control Program (NADCP) has been launched by the Department of Animal Husbandry & Fisheries in U.T. Chandigarh today  at village Dhanas, Chandigarh.

National Animal Disease Control Program (NADCP) is Central Govt. Scheme for eradication of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) and Brucellosis in livestock. The aim of the program is to control the livestock disease by 2025 and eradicate these by 2030. The program aims at vaccinating over 24000 livestock of Chandigarh free of cost which includes Cattle, Buffalo, Sheep, Goats and Pigs against FMD and all bovines female calves against the brucellosis disease.

Sh. Tejdeep Singh Saini, Director Animal Husbandry while launching the Scheme said that prevalence of animal diseases is serious impediment to the growth of the Livestock Sector. Losses due to Foot and Mouth Diseases & Brucellosis are humongous and often beyond estimation. These diseases have a direct negative impact on trade of milk and other livestock products. Therefore, it is imperative to control Foot and Mouth Disease and Brucellosis by vaccinating the target population in continuous and systematic manner. This effort will result in better productivity and acceptability of our animal product world over. The program will be undertaken under COVID-19 guidelines at present.

Dr. Kanwarjit Singh Bhangoo, Joint Director Animal Husbandry revealed Ear tagging to animals will commence from today in all the areas of U.T. Chandigarh. This 12 digit ear tag will work as “Pashu Aadhar” for all the Departmental Schemes and will be required for all animals movements, sale, purchase and other related activities. The Animal identification by ear tagging and recording it in Animal Health module of Information Network for Animal Productivity and Health (INAPH) is mandatory under this scheme. Thus intensive Foot and Mouth disease & Brucellosis Control program will be highly instrumental in the direction of contributing toward Mission Doubling farmer’s income by Govt. of India.
