Jamunapari also known as Jamnapari is one of the most important breed of goat originating from Indian subcontinent. In 1953 this breed have been exported to Indonesia where this breed crossed with local goat and become popular and have been a great success commercially. Jamunapari is a dual purpose breed reared for both milk and meat. The name of this breed is derived from the rivers Yamuna also known as Jamuna in the state of Uttar Pradesh. These goats are also found in Bangladesh.
There is a large variation in color but the typical Jamnapari is white with patches of tan on the neck and head. Coat colour may vary from white, black, yellow, brown or various mix. Most distinguishing characteristics of Jamunapari breed is highly convex nose, jwhich gives them a parrot-like appearance.
They have long flat drooping ears. Both male and female have horns. The udder is well developed and has round, conical teats, They also have unusually long legs.
