This is Mrs. Surabhi Verma wife of Dr. Pankaj Kumar Verma, who is a Senior PCS Officer and is currently posted as City Magistrate in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
From her childhood only Surabhi was quite sensitive towards the plights of animal’s poor condition and animal aid, and has been doing everything in her capacity to alleviate their living conditions. They found a donkey in district Saharanpur, block baliyakhedi on 03rd Nov 2019.

History
- The wound was exposed to the bone level, tearing the skin, subcutaneous tissue, muscle with stretching of tendons.
- The wound was supposed to be 6-8 months old with severe deadening of the surrounding tissues.
Signs and Symptoms
- Leg bent below cannon bone at pastern part.
- Lameness from right forelimb.
- Exposed wound.
Clinical Examination

- BWt- 268 kg
Diagnosis: Wound due to unknown etiology in right forelimb at pastern part of leg exposing the short pastern bone & promixal digital annular ligament.
Treatment
- Avil @ 0.25 mg/kg I/M OD
- Artizone @ 4.4mg/kg I/V OD
- Cleaning of wound with NS & Tincture Iodine
- Ointment Betadine
- Negashunt Powder
- Biofil Powder Crystals applied directly on wound at alternated days after proper cleaning & sterilization of injured part.
- Tetanus @ 2.5 ml I/M once.
- Penicillin 40 lac. @ 10mg/kg I/M OD
- Gentamicin @ 3mg/kg I/V OD
- Serratopeptidase @ 2 Tab OD for 7-8 days.
- Livertonic @ 1% of Bwt. For adult
Biofil Powder was used in the treatment: BioFil Particles are lyophilized Type I intact collagen of fish origin. The increased surface area of BioFil Particles means they are the most active form of collagen based wound management product.

- Keeping the wounded area clean and Fly free (To prevent any further infection).
- Spreading Lime in the stable and around the animal (Sterilization).
- Ointment Betadine (Healing).
- Spray Topicure (Prevent Flies and Quick healing).
- Bolus Serratopeptidase @ 2 tab X OD X 5 days (Muscle repair and anti-inflammatory activity).
Starting with the treatment and welfare of this donkey Mrs. Surabhi and Mr. Pankaj started working for more abandoned animals and made a shelter for them after consulting with Nagar nigam and SDM of that area. That shelter home was situated near the veterinary hospital so that any emergency could also be helped immediately. This is how the donkey was a boon for abandoned animals of that area.
