The ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Eastern Regional Station (ERS), Kolkata and Sasya Shyamala Krishi Vigyan Kendra (SSKVK), Arapanch jointly organized an ‘Animal Health Awareness campaign’ and ‘Chick distribution programme’ at Danga-Balarampur village of Sonarpur in South 24 Parganas district on 29th of December, 2020. The programme was conducted under Development Action Plan for Scheduled Castes (DAPSC) scheme for the year 2020-21.
Twenty (n=20) women beneficiaries belonging to scheduled caste community from Balarampur village participated in the programme. Dr. G. K. Das Principal Scientist from ERS, ICAR-IVRI, Kolkata was present in the programme and co- ordinated the events. Dr. G. K. Das briefly described about the DAPSC scheme and the objectives of the programme.
Senior beneficiaries from Janani Sanirvar Gosthi shared their experiences with the new beneficiaries about the DAPSC Scheme of IVRI-ERS, Kolkata and various programme conducted so far by the Institute in Balarampur and Bonhooghly areas of Sonarpur block. They also highlighted about the profit they earned recently from selling the eggs and meat of quails and the Turkey before Christmas. The inputs were distributed during lockdown period in the month of June, 2020.
Two hundred Rhode Island Red (n=200) chicks (8 days old), 400 Kg starter feed, chick feeder (n=40), chick drinker (n=40), supplements like vitamins, minerals, immune modulators, antioxidants, liver extracts, anthelmintics etc. Besides, each beneficiary also received an awareness kit comprising a writing pad, pen, printed materials and leaflets in local vernacular in a printed folder and one sanitation kit with hand sanitizer, hand wash, cap and mask.
