Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami laid foundation stone for the Advanced Institute for Integrated Research on Livestock and Animal Sciences and participated in the Vivasaya Peruvizha at Thalaivasal, Salem District.
Speaking on the occasion Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami said that the institute will be setup on 1100 Acres land and will be of international standards. The institute will also have a Veterinary College and will be build at a cost of Rs 1024 Crores and will be biggest in south Asia.
The livestock park will have three components. The first will have a modern dairy farm and a state of the art veterinary hospital. In addition, there will be a facility for breeding of native cattle breeds like Umbalacheri, Alambadi and Bargur as well as one for native dogs like chippiparai and Kombai,’’ he said. Similar facility for protecting native goat breeds and pig rearing would also be a part.
The second component will be dedicated to production of value added products from fish, meat, egg and dairy. A 2000-sq. m. pisciculture farm would be set up to produce 20 lakh fishes every year which will be distributed to farmers for rearing.
The third component will be of academic nature where a complex for higher education, research centre for veterinary sciences and a training centre for farmers would be established. A veterinary college at a cost of Rs 82.17 crore would be set up with a capacity of 80 seats,’’ EPS said.
