Dr. Gurpal Singh Walia has been appointed as director of Animal Husbnadry Department, Punjab. Disclosing about the future plans of the department after assuming office, newly appointed Director said that more concrete steps would be taken to implement government schemes and programmes at ground level to promote livestock farming in the state. He said that to double the income of the livestock farmers the department would provide support and services at the door steps of the farmers. He said that goat farming, pig farming and chicken farming will also be encourage to help the economy of the state.

Dr. Walia was earlier posted as Joint Director at the Headquarters and also worked as Deputy Director, Barnala and Fatehgarh Sahib. Dr. Walia did his BVSC (1985) and MVSc in Veterinary Gynecology (1997) from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana and was in the merit list during his post graduation.
