The ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar, Odisha celebrated the “World Food Day “on the theme “Grow, Nourish, Sustain. Together, Our Actions are our Future.” today.
The Chief Guest, Dr. P.S. Pandey, ADG (EP&HS), ICAR, highlighted the farm women’s crucial role in maintaining the family food and nutritional security. He emphasized that the empowerment of the women in agriculture and improvement in their access to inputs, technologies and services can bring phenomenal changes in the present agricultural production scenario of the country, specifically, in establishing the value chains and doubling the farmer’s income for leading towards Atmanirbhar Bharat. He also highlighted the significant contributions of India in general, and ICAR in particular, whose methodologies play a major role in the FAO programmes globally with special emphasis on release of the 17 biofortified varieties and Commemorative Coin of Rs. 75 released by the Hon’ble Prime Minister on the auspicious day.
Dr. Krishna Srinath, Dr. Neelam Grewal and Dr. Jatinder Kishtwaria, Former Directors of the Institute also marked their presence as the Guests of Honor.
In his address, Dr. S.K. Srivastava, Director, ICAR-CIWA stressed on disseminating the technologies to the farm women for their nutritional empowerment. He emphasized on the focused knowledge and skill upgradation programmes on eradicating the malnutrition.
Around 5 Progressive Farm Women and leaders of Women Farmers’ Producers’ Organizations – Smt. Bhagabati Gadaba, MD Chitridora FPC, Koraput; Ms. Pinaki Parimita, Astaranga, Puri; Smt. Gouripriya Mohapatra, Nimapada, Puri; Smt. Kanaklata Panda, Sakhigopal, Puri and Smt. Anusuya Beura, Padasahi, Khordha also shared their experiences during the virtual programme. The Institute’s Scientists and staff members also virtually participated in the programme.
