Mahila Kisan Diwas Celebrated

15 October 2019The ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar celebrated the “Mahila Kisan Diwas” today. The Chief Guest of the occasion, Dr. P.K. Agarwal, Vice-Chancellor, Odisha University of Agriculture & Technology, Bhubaneswar emphasized on the multi-dimensional roles played by the women in agriculture.

Dr. Agarwal stated that the women’s contribution to the agriculture and rural economy is more as compared to men. Therefore, the promotion of proper structural, functional and institutional measures for empowering the women is the need of the hour. It would help in building their abilities and enhancing their access to the input technology and other agricultural resources.

Dr. S.K. Srivastava, Director, ICAR-CIWA briefed about the Institute’s various research and extension activities for empowering the farm women in agriculture and allied sectors. At the outset, Dr. Lipi Das, Principal Scientist and Nodal Officer, Mahila Kisan Diwas highlighted about the significance of celebrating Mahila Kisan Diwas by recognizing the invaluable contribution of farm women in agriculture and rural development, improving food security and eradicating the rural poverty. A total of 200 farm women from the various parts of Odisha and Valsad, Gujarat participated in the programme.
