ICAR-NRC on Camel celebrates World Camel Day – 2020

The ICAR-National Research Centre on Camel, Bikaner, Rajasthan celebrated the “World Camel Day” today.

Dr. R.K. Sawal, Director, ICAR-NRC on Camel highlighted the enormous potential of the animal as a livelihood resource for the humankind. Dr. Sawal accentuated on the expansion of the tourism activities in the region that are being conducted in collaboration with the Department of Tourism, Government of Rajasthan.

World Camel Day

The camels were decorated for highlighting the cultural importance of the species as an appeal for its conservation on the World Camel Day. The Centre has made efforts at the field level with the camel stakeholders and new developments in entrepreneurship in the area, therapeutic properties of its milk for the benefit of humankind and emerging ecotourism potential for livelihood security.

Unlike other species, the utility of camels has gone considerable change from means of transport to a dairy animal. The decreasing numbers have incited people to think for its conservation. The recognition of work on camel milk by FSSAI has paved the way for trade as a functional food.
