A press meet at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (Ludhiana), a premier top ranked state veterinary university in India, cleared the air regarding the attempts made to malign the image of the university by an NRI student . He was in the third professional year of Bachelor of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry (BVSc & AH) degree course. Press conference was addressed by Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor, GADVASU, Dr. SPS Ghuman, Dean, College of Veterinary Science  and officers of the university. He alleged that the university had deliberately failed him. The university authorities said that multiple examinations, by internal as well external examiners, at various time points were held during the period starting from Feb 1, 2021 till August 6, 2021 as per Veterinary Council of India (VCI) Minimum Standards of Veterinary Education Regulations, 2016.

The student was not able to clear a course in the regular exams, for which he was granted compartment exam, which he was again unable to clear. Considering Covid scenario, a special permission was given by the university to appear in re-compartment (mercy chance). However, due to a casual approach towards studies, he again was unable to clear the course. Subsequently, he filed the case in Punjab and Haryana High Court, however, single bench followed by double bench dismissed the case in December 2021, saying that ‘appeal is devoid of merit’ and the bench ‘did not find any substance therein which could substantiate the contentions as have been projected by the appellants’. Following the decision of the court, he refused to follow the VCI procedure to continue studies by doing registration in third professional year, but started using tricks and started to pressurize the university authorities to get his third professional year cleared without following the rules and regulations laid by Govt. of India through VCI for BVSc & AH degree course.

It is pertinent to mention here that as per the personal academic record he stands last not only out of 94 students of his professional year but also out of all the 72 NRI students (in all the five years of BVSc and AH) studying in any professional year of BVSc & AH degree course at College of Veterinary Science, Ludhiana. Moreover, he tried to sabotage the process of the ongoing university exam in online mode by intentionally posting question images in a common WhatsApp group. Despite warning, he refused to delete the images.

The university authorities have appealed to the parents of the students as well as students that after getting admission in BVSc & AH degree course, they shall study hard as the life of livestock, pet and wildlife animals will be in their safe hands. The degree earned by hard work will help them to serve better in their professional career especially for the economically burdened dairy farmers of the state. To help students who are weak in their studies, the university has started remedial classes during off hours without any extra charge. For honing the skills and shaping them into a professional veterinarian, the university is inviting national and international professors to the institute and has planned to send faculty as well as students for training to global institutes for attaining excellence. The university authorities further stated they have not received any complaint regarding financial matters, and they will thoroughly investigate if any complaint is received.
