Punjab initiates steps to offer cheaper ethnic treatment to livestock

21 Novemebr 2019: Brain storming session on Ethnoveterinary Practice (EVP) and Veterinary Homeopathy Practices held at Mohali, November 21. In order to provide alternative treatment to livestock of the state, Punjab animal husbandry department has new plans to revive the age old practices to treat animals for common ailments through ethno veterinary practices so as to provide cheaper treatment alternate to dairy farmers of the state.

Director animal husbandry Punjab Dr Inderjit Singh , giving details about the seminar said that crude indigenous products have been used since time immemorial to treat common livestock ailments which are not only cheaper, easily available and without any deleterious side affects but also their residues are not passed in milk and meat. He said that keeping in view the well-being of animals and economy of farmers, this brain storming session of different experts having experience in ethno veterinary practices and homoeopathic treatment had been held. The seminar was held by animal husbandry department in collaboration with Punjab veterinary council.

Dr MNB Nair from TDU Bangaluru spoke on the contemporary relevance of ethno veterinary practices in the present context, while Dr Punnyamurthy dwelled on use of herbal medicine s for primary health care of livestock. Dr KL Dahiya,a veterinary surgeon of Haryana shared his experiences in the application of ethno veterinary practices at field level. Dr SS Makkar Joint Director animal husbandry, Punjab threw light on the basic principles of Veterinary Homeopathy. Dr Ram Mehar Malik,a veterinarian from Haryana shared his views on the application and relevance of Veterinary Homeopathy at field level.

Experts from GADVASU also emphasis on the use of EVP and Veterinary Homeopathy as an alternative as this is very economical and no Anti Microbial Residues (AMR) in Milk and milk products. And ultimately these Alternate Pathies will help in increasing the Economics of our Farmers.
